‘Self-worth’ – the word suggests how worthy we feel about ourselves, it is a measure of our value. In the world of digitisation and social media, is this sense of worth truly derived from within? Something to ponder over!
My personal experiences include my close ones saying they would follow me on social media only if I followed them. That moment didn’t make me feel good but eventually led to some introspection.
Are in-person relationships less significant than interaction on social media?
Is projection and public display of affection through likes and comments more important than genuine feelings?
Is engagement on social platforms a new parameter of our acceptance and belongingness to society?
A close observation of life, unfortunately, reveals that most of us have given a huge space to how we are perceived by the world rather than what we feel and believe about ourselves. Probably this is why today social media and other public platforms have taken centre stage in most lives.
People constantly (unconsciously) compare themselves with others – their looks, the food they eat, lifestyles and so on. This costs them their well-being in every way. We are living in a world of rats where most of us are running a race – unaware of the finish line. It is imperative to reconsider whether this race aligns with our personal purpose and values.
In today’s world of distraction, it’s more significant to be in connection with ourselves. Only then can we realise validation need not be sought outside – rather it lies as a whole treasure within. The treasure of love, worthiness, respect, and acceptance.
The only step we need to take is to look deeper within to connect to the source.
